Living Divani @ Theatre of Shadows
On the occasion of Frieze Los Angeles 2026, GRAYE presents Theater of Shadows, an immersive project by French artist and filmmaker Benjamin Juhel that turns the West Hollywood showroom into a cinematic setting suspended between light and darkness. A wide selection of Living Divani furnishings shapes the architecture of the interiors, becoming a privileged vantage point from which to engage with the work. Founded in 2011 by Maria Cicione and now celebrating its fifteenth anniversary, GRAYE is a venue where curatorial research and design culture converge, bringing outstanding European craftsmanship to Los Angeles within a gallery framework that fosters dialogue between art, culture, and the built environment. With Theater of Shadows, the gallery deepens this approach, activating its showroom as a narrative framework in which furniture and moving image intersect. Under Juhel’s direction, the walls come alive with sequences inspired by film noir: silhouettes, shifting shadows, and fragmented light drift across surfaces, enveloping the interiors in a contemplative mood. The projections function not as backdrop but as active elements, interacting with the furnishings and drawing visitors into the scene. Guests are invited to sit on the sofas and seating elements, allowing themselves to be carried by the visual and sonic composition within an expanded sense of time that encourages lingering.
